Global Warming and the Price of Beer.

It appears that all the muss and fuss over global warming is causing the price of beer to go up.  In an effort to cash in on Government subsidies for the production of Ethanol and Bio-Diesel(made from vegetable oil) farmers aren't growing enough barley to make hops an essential ingredient of Beer.

This is especially impacting Germany where the price of a liter of beer is expected to rise to nearly $10.80 by Octoberfest.  Hardest hit are small family brewer's who are paying more and more for hops almost $500.00 a ton up from $270 a ton two years ago.  Many may be forced out of business by the rise in prices and Germans may see many of their favorite brands disappear.

Gott im Himmel!!!

In a similar note Farmers in Mexico are negatively impacting the Tequila supply by burning their agave plants to replace them with maize for use in the production of Ethanol.  Farmers are expecting to produce nearly 30% less agave this year than last.  Less agave means less Tequila for consumers and higher prices.

Thank goodness Climate Change fear mongering won't amount to much as we won't even be able to afford to get drunk as the World ends.
